There’s a good, visceral feeling when swinging at enemies whether they’re zombies or humans and there’s an increased emphasis on using parkour in combat that adds more depth to these encounters. The player has a variety of melee weapons and some ranged ones at their disposal along with a lot of craftable items like Molotovs and hand-made grenades.

Combat and parkour movements feel way better than they did in the first game. There’s a lot of missed potential in the system and to make things worse the plot goes completely off the rails towards the end and the conclusion feels very rushed and disappointing.ĭespite those shortcomings though, “Dying Light 2” excels in its gameplay. There are two major factions in the story and while aligning with one changes the outcome of the story those changes are often told and not shown. The developers emphasized a focus on the player’s choices affecting how the story’s outcomes, but like many other games there actual impacts that the choices have aren’t major. The story starts off with a good amount of intrigue, but there’s a lack of interesting characters in the first few hours. Aiden is on a quest to find his long-lost sister, Mia, and he finds himself in what is called “The City” after being infected by a zombie. You play as Aiden Caldwell, a man who was part of secret pharmaceutical trials as a boy and now lives as a roaming mercenary called a pilgrim. Set several years after the ending of the first game this sequel takes place in a world that has largely been consumed by another zombie plague. After a lot of delays the long-anticipated “Dying Light 2” is finally out and while it has issues the core gameplay is vastly improved and provides a fun experience. It still feels like zombie games are a dime a dozen, but finding one that’s high-quality and doesn’t feel like a retread of old ground is rare.
